Lupus: Is this malar rash? Photos attached.?
My sister has Lupus and I’m starting to worry that I might have it, and was hoping for a second opinion.
I been displaying some symptoms for a while, but I have a thyroid problem so that explains away a lot of them. However I’ve noticed recently a slightly red rash across the bridge of my nose. I’ve had it before but never really paid attention as I assumed it was sunburn or something, and I’m usually wearing make up so it doesn’t matter.
I went to Tenerife for three weeks over the summer, and while I was there I came up in an itchy, sore rash all over my arms, legs and neck (thinking about it, for the past couple of years I have gotten a bumpy rash all over my hands as well in the summer?). Also, I’ve notcied that I’m especially intolerant to bright lights -I’ve been know to wear sunglasses in the house!! Maybe I’m photosensitive? Although the rash went down with antihistmines and rash cream.
Looking through the holiday photos, the rash is quite noticeable. In this one you can kind of see the redness around my nose and the rash on my arms, and slightly under my arm pit: http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv1/rachelmorris22/close2.jpg
This one looks to me like the ‘butterfly’ shape:

And you can kind of see it in this one too:

These are the only photos I could find of myself without any make up on. The rash doesn’t look as bad at the moment, baring in mind that I haven’t seen the sun in at least two months!
Would anyone recommend seeing a doctor about it? I’m not sure, and I feel like I’m being a bit over the top. I just hate being made to feel like I’m making things up, so I don;t want to go in there without a good reason. I’ve only JUST had thyroid disease diagnosed after years of feeling unwell but being ignored. Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks, Rachel.

I don’t really see any appreciable rash on your face in any of those photos. If you think you might be getting lupus, go get the blood tests for it to make sure you are not in the early stages. Based on what you have said so far, I am confident that you do not meet the diagnostic criteria for lupus. However, it is definitely something you should keep an eye on and if you have other bothersome symptoms you should go to the doctor and get tested for lupus since you have a family history.
Does any one reading this suffer from LUPUS?
I’m a 24 year old female and I was diagnosed with lupus about 4 monthsd ago. I had the rash all over my body (luckily not the typical butterfly rash on my face), but my chest, arms and legs were badly affected. I’m also photo – sensitive and get tired easily.
Can anyone suggest ways to make the disease easier to cope with and possibly dietary advice.
I have systemic lupus, that is, it affects my organs. I had what they call “acute onset” meaning is was darned serious. Here are some things I have learned.
1. Rest more often than you think you need to
2. Avoid getting over tired
3. Learn to say no
4. Set your priorities and stick to them
5. Avoid processed and fast foods
6. Cut back or elminate animal products
7. Eat a lot (5-7 servings) of fruits and veggies per day
8. Learn to deal with stress (meditation, spiritual reading, yoga)
9. Don’t do for others what they are perfectly capable of doing for themselves
10. Get regular exercise-it actually reduces that fatigue, improves mood, improves immune function, and reduces pain
11. Do not eat alfalfa sprouts-they stimulate the immune system
12. Do not take echinacea, zinc, and goldenseal for colds-they stimulate the immune system
13. Follow your treatment regimen faithfully’
14. Develop a good working relationship with your doctor
15. Don’t wait to see the doc when you are having problems-they don’t go away on their own
16. Learn all you can about lupus
17. Go to http://www.lupus.org and find a local support group
18. You have lupus, lupus does not have you
19. Do not believe the quack ads on the net that say they have a cure-the only cure they have is emptying your wallet
20. The number of Americans who have lupus (1.5 million 0or so) is more than three times the number of people that have multiple sclerosis, sickle cell and cystic fibrosis COMBINED
You are not alone.
Best wishes
Help! Could this rash be caused by auto-immune disease?
http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/5299/rash2.jpg
I am being tested for Lupus, etc. I get a deep blush across my nose with some small raised patches. OR like the one in the photo…circular on the cheek.
I get this along with joint pain, etc
Is it likely these blushes/rashes are caused by Lupus or another autoimmune disease?
Thanks…
What else could cause this rash? With joint pain…?
Here is a bad photo of MYhand with weird dot rash on palms..I only get it on my palms but have had a few dots on ankles too

Someone with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

See the similarities?
What else can cause this dotted palms?
I also get chronic joint pain in ankles (even feet and toes) and hands (wrists..fingers). Swollen joints, joints that seem crooked
I sometimes get bad chest pain, headaches, nausea, seldom low grade fever, sometimes gastrointestinal pain and problems
I also get rashes out of nowhere, everywhere. Some are on my face…like a blush across nose and cheeks. Others on face are like a bug bites that leave in less than a day.
I’ve been to so many doctors….Blood tests that have shown up are abnormal/high C-reactive protein, abnormal clotting factor, and urine tests that showed blood and protein
I’m constantly tested for lupus but no success…
Can anyone please help me with ideas. I know you are not doctors and I’ve been to so many and they are puzzled. Thanks…
Also the dotted palm rash leaves usually within a few hours. Can feel slightly bumpy but still smooth across skin and a bit tingly
All of this has gone on for more than a year
Have your doctor run a Gliadin antibody panel. You also may benefit from having other tests done including: food allergy, heavy metal tests (Hg, Pb, As, etc), and other environmental toxin tests.
